GANDHIGIRI

If you go a few years back in time, Gandhi Jayanti was almost synonymous with dry day. No one gave a damn what "Gandhiji's aadarsh" were. Even in the movie 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' when Munna asks Circuit, " What the hell is on 2nd of October?". His reply was ' dry day hai bhai'. It was infact post the very same movie that Gandhiji's long forgotten principles got some re-recognition. Sanjay Dutt turned out to be the one who gave the term "Gandhigiri" so much hype.

I am not saying this just for the sake of it, but I do have some facts to prove my point. The youth of India is taking Gandhigiri online and spreading it worldwide. There are numerous communities on orkut named after Gandhigiri with hundreds and thousands of members. Just check out GANDHIGIRI KARNE KA MAMU!!! and gandhiri rocks .
The surge about Gandhiism has been on an upswing on sites like Youtube and Facebook. The videos like Gandhi-His Triumph Changed The World Forever and No Dadagiri Only Gandhigiri have drawn a lot of traffic of late.

I myself though am not a big Gandhi believer but I do appreciate some of his principles. I am for example, a big believer of non-violence. I have heard some very wise people say that Gandhiji's principles are too strong to just fade and die out of our culture which post 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai' I understood why.

THE SPORTSMAN SPIRIT

Sports has always fascinated me. In 12 years of my schooling and 1 year of my college sports has been an integral component in my life. I treat sports not as a plural but as a singular entity with an intention to emphasize on all the sports I play rather than a particular game.

I have tried every sport I could including cricket, football, lawn tennis, table tennis, basketball, chess, swimming and even roller skating. But the once I have really excelled in includes roller skating and football. And just for the record I was the Vice Sports Captain in my school. But after my 10th grade the relation between me and my sports has been on and off. I am even a part of my college football team but our playing schedule has been rather sprawled.

Today, after what looked like ages to me, was the ' perfect sporting day ' for me. There wasnt much to do today in college so we spent most of our day playing cricket. I had just reached home when I got a call from an old friend who asked me to play lawn tennis. We had been trying to work it out for sometime now and finally we went today to the sports complex. I had just finished playing lawn tennis when my phone began to beep with messages coming from the local football players for a match. We play football under lights after 8 pm until 10 pm. Today, also like every other day was one of the most amazing games of soccer I had ever played.

And when I came back, took a shower, ate my dinner; I felt so appeased despite all the exhaustion and pain. That made me realized how much I love my sports. Its not just about maintaining the fitness levels but the sense of Sportsman Spirit it arouses in me. That atmosphere of competition it creates and most importantly the sheer pleasure of it. Maybe I am not a professional sportsperson but sports is undoubtedly more than just a hobby to me, an indispensable part of my life.

GOOGLE APPLICATIONS

You might find it odd and maybe think of me as a muddle head, because after criticizing google in my last post I am writing this post in praise of it. But just have a look. Enlisted below are ten of the most highly rated google applications. Check them out.

1. Gmail beta

This probably needs no introduction, one of the most famous among the web's top e-mail tools. It is loved by user's for its simple yet attractive interface and its exceptional message organizing methods.

2. Google Calender beta

It can be thought of as a dynamic online appointment book which helps you maintain your private schedule. It easily can be integrated with gmail and also has the ability to export XML feeds.

3. Google Talk beta

Its an instant-messenging tool offered by google. This application integrates 100s of expression emoticons and is loaded with links to music streaming sites. Its a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) enabled application, so you can just connect a microphone and talk to your friends.

4. Writely beta

An online word processor used to compose and edit simple text files. The only drawback I think of is that it needs an active internet connection which is not really an issue.

5. Google Spreadsheets

Its a spreadsheet application whose essence lies in its simplicity and the ease with which one can sum up some quick figures. Although it cant match Excel but it certainly is a very handy little application.

6. Google Maps

This interactive map tool provides with satelite imagery and helps you get directions to wherever you wish. You can also download this application to your mobile and then you will never have to cary a paper map again.

7. Google Earth beta

I was absolutely stunned when i saw the sattelite image of my roof through this amazing application. This application might sometime in future lead to the concept of virtual tourism where you can get more than just an insight of a place without actually visiting it.

8. Google Sketchup

It is a 3D modelling software that combines a tool-set with an intelligent drawing system. Used to create models using real-world coordinates.

9.Picassa Web Albums beta

This freebie is one of the very few of its own kind. it provides with a ver efficient way of managing your web albums. It has the potential of providing with features like image editing and image tagging besides photo sharing.

10. Google Desktop beta

This software makes searching your computer as easy as searching web with google. Despite being a really cool software i am not very comfortable using it because I dont think I can entrust all m data upon one company.

GOOGLE ADSENSE.......MAKES NO SENSE

While blogging a couple of days ago I saw a message on my dashboard (i.e. my blogger's account) to add Google AdSense on my blog which would display advertisements on my blog and help me "make money". So I thought here is a chance to make some pocket money although I know I do not recieve much traffic on my blog. I had been warned earlier by my well wishers that it would be of no good but still I thought there is no harm in giving it a shot. So I filled up the form and submitted it and this is the reply I got......

I mean what the hell!!!!!
I really see no reason why such a rejection has been made when my page rank changed from 0 to 1 just a few das back. I have heard about google penalizing bloggers for the strangest reasons. Just check out the following links.......

Google Penalty For Yahoo Ad?

Paid Review Penalization!!!!!

Now I just feel lucky that I am not being banned after adding a considerable amount in my account unlike others.

ROCK ON.......LIVE YOUR DREAM

Let me start with, I feel lucky to have seen this movie, which I am sure is going to be a big blockbuster hit and it deserves to be so. It is just one of those inspiring movies which makes you wanna live your life to the fullest. Undoubtedly, the best moments of one's life, the moments you foster the most are the one's spent with you friends. For me this movie just reinforces that fact, besides other things.

This basic plot of this movie contemplates the story of four friends Aditya, Joseph, KD(Killer Drummer) and Rob who group as a band called 'MAGIK' to create some of the best music. They even win a competition and a contract to create their own album. Butsome misunderstandings and misconceptions lead to a spat between Adi, the lead singer played by Farhan Akhtar and Joe, the lead guitarist played by Arjun Rampal and eventually the band splits up. But time conspires and MAGIK gets another chance to perform together once more after ten long years and be friends again.

As far as the performances of the actors is concerned everybody did a great job and Arjun Rampal, in particular has been superb. But the revelation of this movie really has been Farhan Akhtar. Everybody knew he is a fine director, but not too many knew what a terrific actor and a marvelous singer this guy is. Some of the songs, in fact all of the songs sung by him are amazing. Also hats off to the trio of Shankar Ehsaan Loy who have again provided us with such great music to listen to.

To wrap up this I would like to advice every movie buff and music lovers to go and watch this movie beacuse you are gonna love it. And I would go with 4 out of 5 stars for ROCK ON. It completely rocks!!!!!

AMAZING SOCCER SKILLS

Being a football lover and a member of the college football team I do keep on trying different things with a soccer ball but its just too bad I dont possess any extraordinary skills unlike the guy in the following video. The control he has on a soccer ball is quite inexplicable. He showcases 24 different moves with a soccer ball which are completely mind bobbling. I wish I could do some of these, that would certainly make me famous amongst my teammates, if not anything else.
Just sit back and enjoy this incredible video.

US OPEN 2008

US OPEN 2008 got underway on 25th august . Being a sports lover I do follow a lot of sports and lawn tennis is one of them. Personally, I like playing football but I have always felt that a high quality tennis game is the best sporting spectacle. So I might write a few posts on US OPEN 2008 in the upcoming weeks.
For those unaware, US OPEN is an annual event and is one of the four Grand Slams, i.e. Australian Open, Rolland Garros, Wimbledon and US Open. Like the other grand slams it mainly consists of five championships Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles and Mixed Doubles.Since 1978, the tournament has been played on acrylic hard court at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in the Queen's borough of New York City. The US Open differs from the other three Grand Slam tournaments in that there are final-set tiebreaks. In the other three majors, the fifth set for the men and the third set for the women continue until someone wins by two games. Total prize mone of the tournament is a whopping US $ 19, 600, 000.
In Men's competition the strongest contender is surely the defending Champion Roger Federer, even though his toughest competitor and arch rival Rafael Nadal has succeeded him as rank 1. After winning Roland Gaross, Wimbledon and most recently Olmpic Gold the Spaniard is on a high but the Swiss king would be looking to take is throne back. I really dont see anbody else standing a chance in the Men's competition.
The women's competition, on the other hand is wide open according to me. With Maria Sharapova pulling out, Ana Ivanovic and Jelena Jankovic of Serbia seeded 1 and 2 respectively stand a very good chance. The William sisters are always a threat and Elena Dementieva of Russia is also on a high after winning an Olympic Gold. Dinara Safina of Russia, according to me could turn out to be the Dark Horse and can create some major upsets. Also with Sania Mirza pulling out there is nothing much to look forward to from the Indian perspective.
I myself am backing Rafael Nadal and Dinara Safina to win the championship and looking forward to watch their matches.

LIFE IN LINES

Imagine what it would be like to blog every moment you cherish and want to share it with your friends. Well dear friends now it is possible courtesy a new platform LifeInLines (LiL).
This website which is a wonderful blend of blogging and social networking is a creation of Ankur Gattani and Maninder Gulati, alumni of IIT Bombay. The specialty of this website is that it allows its registered users to upload their posts in any form they want that is, text, pictures or even audio recordings which can be recorded by simply dialing a phone number from your registered phone number. The post can be made through email, SMS, MMS or google talk. This site also provide the necessary security and privacy options. It is up to the user that which moments does he/she wants to keep it to himself or share it with someone special or share it with everybody. I mean a person can go as much public or as much private he/she wants. This site will also bring respite to to those who cannot access social networking sites like orkut from their workplace , because all you need is registered mobile phone. According to Mr. Gattani, "This will serve as a personal archive. There are so many moments that cant be captured in text so a person's voice becomes a powerful means."
I think its a brilliant idea as it and could be mighty successful if implemented correctly as it provides much more options than other social networking sites like orkut and facebook. I am too thinking of joining Life In Lines soon and then I wont be needing an internet connection to stay connected to my friends. Sounds cool, isnt it?

IT IS LIKE DOOMSDAY

Yup, you guessed it right, my result is finally out and you might have sensed it until now I am not too happy.
You wake up on a Sunday morning thinking that everything in this world is just about right, just when you come to know there is result waiting to ruin the day. Now I did manage a 78% which is respectable but I am quite disappointed because I expected much more. The worst part is that it is a big slip from the last time.
Now some might think that I am too whiny and I am also expecting a couple of comments describing me so, but I am supposed to blog what I feel. And right now I dont feel like writing anymore.
But life always gives you a second chance, so I will try harder and try and score a better result the next time around.

Burj Al Arab

Today me and my cousin were discussing about world's most destinations and he told me about this marvelous seven-star hotel located in U.A.E. which he visited last year with his family , Burj Al Arab. So I decided to google it and here's what I found.

One of the very few seven star hotels of the world Burj Al Arab stands over one thousand feet tall and was built to resemble the sail of a yacht.

This mega structure has been built over its own island located about 1000 feet offshore from Dubai.

The architecture of this hotel is such that despite being so long it contains only 28 stories as each story is built of twice the height of a usual story inside a hotel.

This is the view of one of the 202 Duplex suites of Burj Al Arab. Each of these have floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the water surrounding this offshore property. The room is laden with all kinds of latest technologies and accessories with the controls at guest's fingertips.
the hotel also provides a chauffeur-driven Rolls Royce for its patrons to visit other destinations in Dubai.

The hotel's lobby has a very soothing ambiance and its interiors are just magnificent.

Al Mahara, the restaurant is one of the main attraction as it is world's only under water restaurant. Dining here starts with a three-minute simulated submarine descent. It also has a floor to ceiling saltwater aquarium built at the center of the room.

On the top floor is located the spa at the Burj Al Arab. There are seperate pools as well as treatment rooms for men and women.

Absolutely sensational stuff, isnt it? I dont know about you guys but this wonder has certainly gone to the top of my list of dream destinations.

INDIA'S MOST EXPENSIVE CRASH

Today while browsing the net I came across these staggering pics of a Lamborghini Murciélago LP640 crash which happened in Mumbai a few days back. It is possibly the most expensive car crash of India. I thought I might share them with you.

As you can see the front end of the car has been decimated completely. The front axle and wheels are nowhere to be found which have left many wondering. But the most amazing thing is that the driver made it out alive despite such an annihilation of the vehicle, proving the fact what a tough nut this dream machine is.
This might sound a bit stingy but I dont really feel for the driver as much as I do for the car.I mean, what a waste of a beauty!!!!!!!

AAYAM

I am about to retire after a very tiring day at the college. Tiring, not because I was studying really hard but tiring because we did a lot of other stuff. I traveled from my home to college (30 km), from college to cinema hall for the movies which we could not watch because the tickets were not availaible (10 km), from cinema hall back to college (10 km), from college to Ansal Plaza & then back home (about 50 km). Hufff.... now isnt that tiring??
A couple of my collegemates decided, a few days back, to start a Dramatics society in our college. After much struggle and hardwork it finally happened. Today were the first ever auditions of "AAYAM", the official dramatics society of our college. So apart from wandering around the streets of delhi, I also appeared for its auditions today. It was a fun experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The audition consisted of two performances, a monologue and a group performance. We were given topics on the spot for both and had to prepare performances for the same within a few minutes. The topic I got for my monologue was "Corrupt Officer, Subtle Bribery", and for group performance "Lok Sabha". My monologue performance kind of sucked. I could convey what I was trying to. But I completely rocked in my group performance. We were four people and I played Navjot Singh Sidhu and the other three characters were Lalu Prasad Yadav, Atal Vihari Vaajpayee and speaker of Lok Sabha. Our performance was really appreciated by the judges and I could tell from there expression that I kind of stole the show.
I have always had my interests in dramatics and AAYAM would be the perfect platform to deal with them. And after a good audition I am hoping to be a part of AAYAM. The results will be out tomorrow and I am just keeping my fingers crossed.

APPLE iPhone 3G

Aug 22, i.e. this Friday will mark a new chapter in India's telecom history. It is the launch of the much awaited Apple iPhone 3G. The furor this little gadget has created, not only in India but all around the globe, is astounding. Every second person I meet nowadays tells me, " Hey! iPhone 3G is being launched on Aug 22." and I tell them, " Ya, even the deaf & the dumb know that."
Apple having had achieved enormous success with its i-Pods and i-Macs, has created a real frenzy amongst the admirers of Steve Jobs' work and even those who dont even know who Steve Job is, with its iPhone 3G.
No doubt, there are huge expectations but so have been the speculations. With speculations I mean the price and the contractual details. In India, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone are bringing this mean machine coming this Friday. But now the prices are finally out. the 8gb model will be availaible for 31K and only in white colour while the 16gb model will cost 36.1K and will come in white as well as black.
For those unaware, 3g stands for third generationof mobile phone standards and technology, which will enable us to get better services which includes wide-area wireless voice telephony, video calls, and broadband wireless data, all in a mobile enviornment. iPhone 3G includes all these features, with twice the speed of first generation iPhone and it also includes a built-in GPS.
The pricing, I am sure has broken a lot of hearts all over India but still the franchise holders are flooded with advanced bookings. I myself was too excited about the prospect of buying this baby but 31K is too high a price and I really hope I could own one someday.

BACK TO BLOGGING

How lousy and pathetic can someone be? Even the lousiest of all tend to realize sooner than later, the levels of disgust they have achieved, and perhaps try to rectify the same.
But not me. It is just shocking for me to know how lethargic I am. Writing blogs was one of the few good decisions that I have taken in some time now. So I did start writing blogs. But 8 post was all I could manage in three and a half months, i.e.May, June, July, and half of August. That is the level of disgust I have manged. In short, dear readers (if any), today I stand before yourself confessing the fact that "I hate myself".
But guess what!! I am not the only one. Gaurav Arora and Himanshu Garg, two of my college mates who started blogging round about the same time as me havent made much progress as well. I know this doesnt make me look any better, instead makes all three of us jerks, and that is exactly the conclusion we all reached today. So we finally decided its enough and made a pact. So starting from today, each of us will have to blog daily. And the one who doesnt will have to pay a fine of Rs.10 which we will save and may be party sometime later when there is enough money collected. And considering the fact how incredibly lazy we three are, I think we will have a ball.
Although we all really like to party and have fun, but it would make me happier if our little "fine kitty" remains empty. Because then that would mean we are making some good progress.
So for the sake of 10 bucks I am back to blogging.

MY FIRST SUCCESSFUL WEB PROJECT

Finally, I have taken my first leap towards accomplishing my dream of being a successful webmaster. 11th of july turned out to be the date when i got my first website uploaded on the net.
I have been working under Mr. Anuj Pathania a senior at my collage and a SEO proffesional. He is the co-founder of a business networking company WIZOM (the other co-founders being the seniors of my college too). So me along with two of my other friends Gaurav Arora and Himanshu Garg have been working for WIZOM as web developer. So as our first project we had to design the website of the marketing department of WIZOM and I can proudly say that me along with my friends under the guidance of Anuj, my senior , have done it.
Check it out.....WIZOM MARKETIG SOLUTIONS (http://wizom.com/marketingsolutions/).
Also see the screen shots.....

We used adobe fireworks and flash for image editing and buttons etc., HTML as basic coding and Cascasde Styling Sheets (CSS) for designing the template. The rest of the ingredients included a lot of creativity and hardwork.

Although this wasn't the first project given to us but the first one comleted. Now I have a couple of more projects under my belt whcih I am working on. I have a very positive vibe about this association with WIZOM and Mr. Anuj Pathania and I hope it will take me somewhere.........

PROBLEM SOLVED.......UBUNTU FORUMS ROCKS

I would like to tell you that I am relatively new with linux.I didnt really like it at first but now I am just loving it.The very fact that Linux is an open-source operating system and is freely available to every person unlike its arch-rival Microsoft Windows, makes it so fascinating at least for me.

I faced a few problems when i first installed it on my system.Had to recover my windows after one week.I was disgusted, because the partitioning of my system was disarrayed and it took me two days to figure out how to fix it.But then I found out about a very efficient way to install Linux on my system.Click here to know more about it.

PROBLEM-
Anyways, now i had installed Linux (Xubuntu) on my system and was working peacefully on it and suddenly there was a power failure at my place. When power came back the modem restarted but the internet did not work so i simply rebooted the system & then it worked. Then there was a server failure on behalf of my Internet Service Provider. So again i restarted my modem but net did not work.So I re-entered my IP settings and then it worked. And today there were 5 power cuts within an hour and going through this cycle again & again just drove me crazy.

Then someone adviced me to post my problem on UBUNTU FORUMS.I did the needful and guess what......my problem was dealt with within an hour.
SOLUTION-
In such a situation first bring down and then bring up your internet using 'ifdown' and 'ifup' commands respectively.
For Example,
-->sudo ifup eth0
will bring up an ethernet connection but make sure you provide the correct interface.
You can use 'ifconfig' command to find your interface....

I found these commands pretty handy and hope these would help you out too.......

TWITTER

Today I came across a very interesting social networking site known as TWITTER.

Twitter is a micro-blogging and social networking site which allow users to send updates or tweets (text based posts of max length 140 chars) to the twitter website. These updates can be send directly at twitter website, through sms service, through a third party application like facebook
and even through instant messaging.
The so called 'tweets' or 'updates' are published on the user's profile and also on the profiles of the followers.Followers are the people or users who chose to 'follow' you on twitter, that is, they are interested in getting your time to time update and this is how social networking is done on twitter.

My initial reaction when I first heard about twitter was,"huff!!! what a waste of time?". But once i saw it and learnt that the updates could also be displayed on your blog, which by the way i have done under the title 'My Status', I decided to join it.Hey after all this is social networking which means more traffic. But not just that it is actually fun and i am getting fond of it.........

BIG B THE BLOGGER

Hey friends can you guess who is the most famous blogger in India? None other than the most famous personality of India ........Mr. AMITABH BACHCHAN himself.
Big B started his blog on April 18th this year and has 53 posts(till the time of writing this blog;he writes everyday) on it.
Just check out the screenshots....

Most famous I say because Mr Bachchan's blog has been recieving at least 100 comments daily since the beginning. The highest was 1330 on his post on june 7
, during the IIFA weekend.
Check it out.....

And know the good news.............
A Delhi-based publishing house, capitalising on the popularity of Mr. Bachchan's blog has decided to compile his blog into a book. The publishing house is currently is in talks with the veteran actor to bring out the printed version by early 2009. According to a well-placed official in the publishing house, "
Going by the popularity of Mr Bachchan's blog, it's the best collectable item we can offer his fans. It is the first time that Mr Bachchan has poured his heart out. For a Bachchan fan , this could be the most personal way of owing him."
The news is also that Reliance Big Entertainment has plans to take the book international although the news is not yet confirmed.

Huffff!!! Today i learnt another way getting huge traffic to a website........Be a Amitabh Bachchan or somebody as famous as him..............What do you think guys?? Do comment.....

ORKUTIAN ARRESTED

Orkut for most people is just pure fun, isnt it? Well, at least thats what Rahul Krishankumar Vaid thought. What he didn't know was that posting derogatory remarks on Orkut could land you in jail and this Gurgaon lad learnt it the hard way!!!!!

Rahul Krishankumar Vaid, a Gurgaon resident, was recently arrested for posting obscene comments about Sonia Gandhi on the community i hate sonia gandhi.

Obviously, the banned comments and the profile of the person has been deleted.

Mr Vaid was charged under section 292 of Indian Penal Code & section 67 of the Information Technology. He could be sentenced for 5 years in prison and fined 1 lakh rupees.

It is actually kind of funny that an arrest took place while communities like I hate Aishwarya rai, I hate Himesh Reshamiya etc. are filled with remarks which go way beyond just obscene.
According to DCP Rajan Bhagat, PRO Delhi Police, definition of 'obscenity' is well defined in the law books and the accused can be punished only if people come forward and complain.
And just for the record, besides posting inappropriate comments hacking into another person's account and snooping into one can also end you up in prison.

I don't think i am the right person to pass a judgment, but how fair is it to have such laws which suppresses the freedom of expression in a country like India where freedom of speech and expression is a fundamental right? Any reactions or comments are welcome..........

ORKUTTING FOR WEB TRAFFIC

Orkut as you all know is one of the most famous site for online social networking.
Every other person i know has a profile on orkut. Even i have got my own orkut profile. So you can imagine the amount of potential traffic orkut has in store for you. Now the question is how to direct this traffic to your targeted website?

The answer lies in a very special feature provided by orkut which is orkut communities. Now if you own a big community with a hefty number of members and bunches of forum discussions then any link in the community profile is bound to attract traffic to the targeted link. Moreover the profiles of owners , co-owners and moderators are also likely to be checked out and so are the links if any on their respective profiles. So even if you don't own a big community but are related to one even then you can attract significant traffic. Also this is a good way of directing traffic to multiple websites without spamming the community profile.

In my view this is a very efficient way of getting traffic, and i plan to open a community soon which i will tell you about once it happens.

BASIC WEB TECHNOLOGIES

Just to start with i would like to tell you that lately i have
developed this 'interest' in web technologies.
In this post i am going to tell you what all you can expect from
this blog.

Internet has had a profound impact on our globe in all these years of
development.Web technologies may be thought of a package containing
all the tools to work on the internet.
Web technologies, though a very wide term, may be classified into its
major components as follows-

SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (SEO)
Probably the most important aspect in running a website, because
more the search engine ranking, more the traffic & more the
earnings. Initial steps of SEO include targeting a proper keyword,
but it is about much more than that.

WEB DESIGNING
Web designing can simply be defined as designing your web site.
This web site displays the content wich you want to communicate
to the user. Basic web designing languages include HTML, XHTML
and XML.For more complex designing Flash, Quick Time, Java etc.
can be used.
Web professionals tend to concentrate on seo and tend to
forget that the content is also important. Until you provide
quality services to the traffic, it doesnt make a differnce
where does it come from, it will last.

WEB DEVELOPMENT
Web development on the other hand is primarily concerned with
the non-designing aspects of creating a web site. Some of the
major components which come under web development are writing
markup & coding, e-commerce business development,
client-side/server-side coding, web server configuration,social
network services etc.
